Indiana celebrates 100th anniversary of Indy 500 Car Race
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, UNITED STATES, May 29 (Xinhua) -- As part of celebrations for the 100 anniversaries of Indy 500 Car Race, the IPL Indy 500 Parade was held in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, capital of Indiana. It attracted more than 300,000 spectators from all walks of life.
Spectacular specialty units along with high-energy marching bands came together with giant helium balloons and innovative float designs.
The IPL Indy 500 parade has become one of the significant events in Indiana every year. It consistently ranks among the nation's top three parades that also include the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
This parade had a wide variety of participants that included Celebrities/VIPs such as 33 Indy 500 Drivers Tom McGowan, 500 Festival Chairman of the Board and Mayor Greg Ballard; Floats such as 500 Festival Queen & Princesses and 500 Festival Princess Program Alumnae.
Bamboo Panda, sponsored by the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, was one of the highlights of the whole parade, which attracted the special attention of the hundreds of thousands of spectators.
After holding on to a big dragon balloon in 2010, the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis chose a Bamboo Panda for the parade, with the aim of promoting the traditional Chinese culture and people's awareness of working towards peace and prosperity.
